Totalai Land & Sea Indigenous Corporation proudly celebrates the achievements of our Founder and Director, Ms Loretta Pele Glanville, who was honoured as one of three finalists at the 26th Anniversary Queensland Training Awards – Tropical North Queensland Regional Final on 5 August 2026.
Loretta was recognised in the prestigious Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Student of the Year – Rio Tinto Award, acknowledging outstanding excellence in Vocational Education and Training across Queensland.
She stood alongside two exceptional Indigenous leaders:
Elder Elsa Merad Day — Maiso Meriam Mir Indigenous Corporation, Mer Island. Finalist, Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Student of the Year.
Stirling Ludwick — Gunggandji–Mandingalbay Yidinji Peoples PBC Ranger Program. Finalist, Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Student of the Year.
Together, these finalists represented the strength, cultural authority, and educational leadership of Zenadth Kes and Tropical North Queensland.
🌊 Ms Glanville's Statement
"What I have achieved has come through resilience — overcoming challenges and proving that distance and location are just words. Dreams can be achieved when you truly understand your purpose and your destiny on this earth.
Thanks to Puipikak Malu IC, in partnership with EnviroTech Education RTO, for demonstrating that Vocational Education and Training can be accessible, even in the most remote parts of the Torres Strait."
Loretta acknowledges her siblings as her greatest support, and her children as her daily motivation. She reflects that everything she has pursued — every qualification, every project, every step into leadership — has been for them, and for the region of Zenadth Kes. Her commitment is to leave a meaningful legacy for future generations.
🌺 A Legacy for Zenadth Kes
Loretta's recognition highlights her contributions across education, conservation, and global advocacy, including:
Micro Business and Digital Business Administration Skill Sets
Torres Strait–led Vocational Education & Training pathways
Founding the Totalai Land & Sea Conservation Hub
An international marine restoration scholarship in Israel
Presenting at the United Nations Ocean Conference (Nice, France, 2025)
Mentoring emerging Indigenous women leaders and young rangers
Her journey demonstrates that world-class education and global impact can be achieved from the most remote islands when culture, purpose, and determination guide the way. She always strive to be a trailblazer for her region where she proudly represent her heritage as a women of the Mualgal, Kaurareg & Daureb Nation of Zenadth Kes.
