Eldrina Warria
Torres Strait Islander Educator & Conservation Advocate
Eldrina Warria is a proud Torres Strait Island woman from Masig and Moa Islands in the Zenadth Kes region. Growing up on both land and sea country, her childhood spent diving, fishing, and reef walking with family instilled in her a deep cultural value of stewardship and a lifelong commitment to caring for country.
For over 11 years, Eldrina has worked as a Teacher Aide across primary and secondary schools in the Torres Strait. Her passion for education comes from a strong belief in passing knowledge to the next generation, empowering young people with both cultural identity and skills for the future. Alongside her teaching role, she has volunteered in conservation projects with Local Rangers, strengthening her dedication to protecting reef and marine ecosystems.
Witnessing the success of marine conservation efforts on Great Keppel Island as a young woman inspired her determination to achieve similar outcomes for the reefs of the Torres Strait.
Eldrina’s vision is to bring together education and conservation, ensuring Torres Strait Islanders can lead sustainable practices that protect sea country. Through initiatives like Totalai and community-driven programs, she hopes to inspire collective action so that future generations inherit thriving reefs and a strong cultural legacy of stewardship.
